The Egyptian Revolution and Forshadowings

8 Feb

Made in the U.S.A.

A protester displays a teargas canister during clashes in Cairo January 28, 2011. President Hosni Mubarak sent troops and armed cars onto the streets of Cairo and other Egyptian cities on Friday in an attempt to stop street fighting and mass protests demanding an end to his 30-year rule.

One of the many weapons the police are using against the Egyptians that are protesting  is tear gas. The U.S.A. makes itself out to be a place that saves everyone that has a problem. Egypt, our ally, has been going through its own issues, but what I find contradicting is the fact that the tear gas that Egyptian officers are using to harm their people is made in the U.S.A. The Egyptian man holding the tear gas is showing the fact that the very nation that claims to support them is the same one that is destroying them.

Rainbow's in Egypt

On January 28, 2011 a demonstrator was sprayed with water canons by police in Cairo. Police and demonstrators fought running battles on the streets of Cairo on Friday in a fourth day of unprecedented protests by tens of thousands of Egyptians demanding an end to President Hosni Mubarak’s three-decade rule.

I found this picture extremely contradictory and maybe a foreshadowing of the future. In the picture if you look clearly there is someone being sprayed with water and in the midst of it there is a rainbow. This can be a foreshadowing of the idea that even though Egypt is going through all of this negativity, there will be a positive outcome.

New life

This picture shows the people of Egypt including relatives of Gharib Abdelaziz¬† Abdellatif, attempting to enter the hospital in port city in Suez. He died of internal bleeding after the police shot him in the stomach on Wednesday, January 26, 2011, according to medical sources. The police fought with thousands of Egyptian who defied a government ban on Wednesday to protest against Mubarak’s 30 years of rule.

Although this picture shows the Egyptians protesting when looked at in a new light there can be a deeper meaning. The people on the side of the gate are people fighting for a better life, the gate can represent the road block stopping them from getting on the other side, and the other side can be the place of a better life and new beginning.

Desire=Peace

On January 28, 2011 a protester in Cairo gestures in front of a burning barricade. Police and demonstraters fought running battles on the streets of Cairo on Friday.

The man in this picture is a symbol of what everyone in Egypt is fighting for. Behind him is fire and smoke which has been caused by all the fighting to get their president out. The man standing in the middle of it with a peace sign up is a symbol of what all of Egypt wants. They just want peace and a better life that includes true freedom for them.

Obama keeps every hand gesture and facial expression very political. There is no real exaggerated hand gesture and their is a certain blank face with his facial expressions. The republicans along with many other Americans are very skeptical about the idea that Obama might be asking for a lot of money.

As president and a political leader Obama must let the country know of many ideas that he has for our country, but he also has to find a way to smooth things over when he is asking for us to take risks. It is known that the country has gone through a recession which we are coming out of slowly, but he is asking for billions of dollars for certain projects he has. When Obama talks about the money solutions and giving money to companies he says that its not about handing out money its about “issuing challenges.” I believe that Obama says things like this, because he knows that what he is asking America for is something that we are not to comfortable with. Obama is asking the American people to put faith into ideas that are not completely reliable. As a nation that has gone through a recession and is not too sure of tomorrow; putting trust in a risky idea is not very simple. Obama understands that and therefore tries to smooth things over by using words of hope and reassurance.

Although Obama’s speech is full of hope with solving the immigration issues, trying to make jobs for those who have lost theirs due to the recession, and trying to find ways to help students out with college; Americans are left in a cloud of confusion because it is not sure what to thing about the money that Obama wants to put out there.
